Any advantage of opening an account on USCIS website to receive automatic case status updates? or I don't need to do that if I keep checking the status online by myself?
They send you and email if something changes, nice if you have a Blackberry/pda
If you have multiple cases i-129, i-131, i-140, i-485 you can see them all on one page, I find that easier to see LUDs in particular the "soft" non-action ones, but it's nice to know the file was touched.

Can someone advise on the alternatives of marriage / DOB certificates for the I-485 phase? My wife and I don't have a marriage certificate--we do have an affidavit from India, though (we married 10 years ago in India). Likewise, we don't have our DOB certificates issued by the municipalities we were born in. Would school certificates/affidavits from our parents work? What would be the easiest / quickest substitutes?

Trying to help Mother-In-Law over from China for visit. Unsuccessful w/ tourist Visa process, so now going for Green Card. Received Notice of Decision against me, unable to establish my Petitioner wife is daughter of Beneficiary Mother-In-Law. No hospital records. Previous evidence was "Notarial Certificate of Relationship." I have just received new evidence "Notarial Certificate of Birth" from civil authorities - along with affidavit from school teacher - I need to file EOIR-29, I think to call it APPEAL, OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE, MOTION TO RECONSIDER - can anyone provide a "go-by" as to what format my letter should take? Is letter format acceptable or is formal pleading format needed?
Time is of the essence, I have to file within 24 hours or give up and pursue DNA testing....

On a serious note, you just have to inform your (dependent's) employer and provide them a copy of your unexpired EAD. Thats it! The employer may require you to fill a new I9 form.

Folks,
I know this may be a little of topic but just bear with me. I am simply looking at alternatives in case the GC does not pull through. Does any one over here have any experiences living and working in the Middle east ? I just read an article about Saudi Arabia's economy dealing with record unemployment. They are in the process of taking jobs away from foreigners and giving it to the locals.
Where do we go to look for jobs in the Middle east. Any advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated. I'm praying my GC does finally pull through.

I have a question; my girlfriend came to the US with a tourist visa in 2002 (now her visa is expired), so now I guess she is an ilegal alien, my question is: Is there anyway she can become a legal resident?

I applied for my I-485 September 2008 and have had EAD for more than a year now. However, I got married in Feb 2009 (after my 485 application) and never had a chance to add my wife to the application (she's on H4).
Now, I really really want to change my job (not change of role/title, just change of company).
How does it work if I change companies now? I don't want to or rather can't use EAD since that will make my wife's status invalid. Now, if I am to get a H1B transfer, what happens with my GC application given I already have my EAD with the current company??
Please advise. Thank you!

In the Labor Certification form they quoted 40 for the "Total hours per week". The LC was approved back in July of 2007. Later in Sept. of 2007 we filed I-140 and I-485 concurrently.
In April of this year my company received an RFE for the I-140, where USCIS requested some additional translations and my W-2 forms for all the years of my employment. We've responded to it.
So here's my question. Since 2002 my working schedule changed and now I work 32 hours per week, that is different than 40, which was included in the LC. It doesn't say anywhere in my W-2's, but one can easily see that I'm being paid less by doing some simple math.
Do you think this would pose a problem and if so, what shall I do at this point?

I have applied for OPT application (applied first time) in second week of May @ Vermont Service Center.
In last week of June, my employer filed H1B visa via premium processing and it gets approved within a week. H1B start date is Dec 1, 2010.
Last week, I received RFE for my OPT application stating that my status has changed to H1B. Please provide approval receipt. I have sent the approval receipt to USCIS. Current online status of OPT application shows that USCIS office received requested documents and my case is pending.
1. Will it affect my OPT application?
2. My original joining date is already postponed by 2 weeks. Still I am waiting for OPT card. Should I request expedite processing of my OPT application? or should I wait?
Please let me know. Thanks.

We are getting ready to file for another H1B extension, and based on work location, will have to file with the Vermont Service Center. The employer is NOT cap-exempt, but I have had an H1B for many years (so do not need to file for new visa). I am not sure which is the correct address for filing, though. (See p. 20, I-129 instructions.) I think we need to use:
All other I-129 Cases:
